Mass Inactive User Deletion, Sorry

Post by Suaidan »

As most of you know, we are dealing with a lot of spambots. I am trying to get a solution in place and I think I have one but unfortunately, since then there have been hundreds of spambots applying to get into the Cafe. Because our anti-spam system isn't up to snuff just yet, I've just deleted about 600 attempted logins. By my best guesstimate, perhaps 5 of those were real people and to those five I say, I am SO SORRY but please try to sign up again, and I will let you in. So far the best way to get in is to catch the live Q&A show on Sunday and give me your user details (welcome to the intrepids who went that route) untill I have a better system in place. Please be patient as we try to make the Cafe the single best place for True Orthodox to communicate and build community worldwide this year and the next!

In Christ

Someone really hates the Cafe. 17 signups since I wrote this. One deletion led to a re-registration attempt with the same name and a "clean" email.

Let God arise and let His enemies be scattered!

Hopefully few legitimate users are effected by this... I'm not sure who is targeting us or why, but may it fail.

Maybe you could ban certain IPs from signing up if they keep at it, although this could probably be very easily avoided with a VPN.

The spam bots thing started happening in recent months, correct? If so, it's definitely a sign that someone is not very happy about the work being done here.
