Perhaps instead of guessing or speculating what Blessed Joseph would have done in regards to the contemporary situation in the Church today, one should follow the example of those who survived Blessed Joseph into the modern era and were members of his brotherhood, who knew him best. Blessed Joseph had lay spiritual children who followed the new calendar and old calendar, and were members of both "offical" Orthodoxy and "true" Orthodoxy. All we can do is follow in the footsteps of those who personally knew, lived, loved, and experienced this God-bearing elder.

If the Elder did not follow the Fathers, then we should not follow the Elder. All of Holy Scripture, the Fathers and the Councils tell us to flee from heresy and have no communion with it.

Elders have been known to have blind spots - not from wilful and wrong intentions but from an innocent lack of insight or exposure to what was really going on. Those now considered saints were not immune from misjudgments.

Moreover, it is easily gleaned from the reactions of Blessed Elder Joseph's spiritual children to the heresiarch athenagoras' actions--THEY LED THE NON-COMMEMORATORS AND 19 OF 20 MONASTERIES--how they view the EP...

Does all this also go for Saint John Maximovitch of Shanghai and San Francisco? Was St. John an OC zealot?

I have to agree with Nathaniel about what we have been told - the warnings of the Fathers of the church were not to cause harm ,but to let us know that people causing splinters within the church were around then and will be in around in our time too, sad thing is many will fall in belief and well may God help them all.........
