Another New England Schism

(Ipswich - 9.24.05) Almost 20 years after the first major renovationist schism from the Russian Orthodox Church (ROCOR) centered in the Boston area, the Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church in America faces a new schism from members of the original 1986 schism who joined our Church in 2004. This time the architects of the schism, Fathers Spyridon Schneider, Victor Melehov, Christopher Johnson, and Dionysi McGowan have begun calling upon Metropolitan to choose "worthy episcopal candidates" and have attempted to silence ROAC's internet presence in America.

Subdeacon John Phillips, on the new ROAC Google list, reports that he had originally moved with Fr Dionysi to Ipswich only to find that the priests had ceased commemorating their local Bishop, and so joined the Administration parish in New Jersey. Attempting to join the ROAC-Yahoo list for news purposes, Subdeacon John was rejected. When the list owner, Fr Deacon Nikolai Stanosheck, attempted to find out why, he was told that the Subdeacon and family had moved to the jurisdiction of Metropolitan Vitaly. A few phone calls later, the truth was revealed when suddenly it was discovered that Fr Dionysi had removed the list owner and Metropolitan Valentine's choice for the list ownership, the billingual Archimandrite Andrei of New Jersey from the list. The motivations on the part of the would-be-schismatics had become clear-- to silence the Sobor's internet presence in America.

Three of the four priests involved in the "Ipswich schism" have been suspended since July.

Fr Spyridon Schneider is known for his vocal involvement in the 1986 schism until his repentance and return to the ROCOR a few years later. He then joined three other jurisdictions before settling in ROAC in 2004, claiming to be proud to "have returned to the Russian Church". Fr Dionysi's decision is a surprise, considering his involvement and separation from a previous schism in our Church, which he discussed in an interview with NFTU last year. NFTU

 Brethren,
I do not understand "Ipswich Schism." Please explain your reasons for alleging that Frs. Spyridon, Victor and Christopher are in schism. I understand they are under suspension from Suzdal for alleged uncanonical behaviour, having urged bishops to separate from Met. Valentin unless he defrock the former Igumen Gregory for the Imyabozhii heresy. I assume that they are not serving, and that Fr. Dionysi is.

Now that Vladyka Metropolitan has taken care of the imyaslavije problem, is it not just a question of time before the priests in question repent of their precipitate action and are forgiven? Surely this is to be expected, unless some other so-far undisclosed problem exists. They are all men of conscience and good will, and until we hear from them, we should assume misunderstanding and pray for just and charitable reconciliation.

I would urge you and Under-Diakon Ioann to be patient and to refrain from speculative abuse of fathers and brothers in Christ. May God forgive us all for our pride and unkindness.
In IC XC,
G.Y.

Gleb:

Then ¿Why did Fr Dionysi remove from the list of ROAC Yahoo Gruop to Fr Andrei and Fr Nikolai?

Why did Fr Dionysi abandon his parish without a blessing of his rulling bishop?

Why did clergymen of Ipswich stop to commemorate Metropolitan Valentine?

Why.. etc etc etc?

Parishoners who are still members of St. Basil's were removed as well. The issue that we have here is a symphony of silence all of a sudden. If there is no issue here that could cause a schism then why is there no communication? Why is it that people are being left out in the cold here with no explanation whatsoever rather than being "filled on" on the stuff thats going on in MA.

From those who have been to MA and have seen what is going on they say that the situation is not pretty. I am saddened by all of this because I am sick and tired of personal agendas and power struggles when all we are aching for is union with God and the Mysteries of the Church.

I have written to the Metropolitan and await his response on all of this. I am tired of this and will attempt to nip this in the bud for my own sanity.

In Christ,
Juvenaly Martinka - an obedient and submitting child of the Church.

For those of you that really want to know the truth here I go.

The only notice that the New England Fathers have ever recieved that Metropolitan Valitine had suspended them is the E notice, there has been no UKASE official or unofficial. There has been no "paper" notice recieved by any of the New England Fathers stating that they are suspended.

Juvenaly, you say we have been silent, you sent me an email, I responded, you have not responded to the email, wel you may have I have not been able to check my mail today, but I did give you Father Dionysi's phone number and his email address is still the same. Why are you not asking him for any information?

The ROAC list is owned by Father Dionysi and when Bishop Gregory of Denver destroyed it everyone was saying that he had no right to do that because the list belonged to Father Dionysi. Now when Father Nikolos starts to make changes in it and makes Father Andrew a moderator, again with out Father Dionysi's permision, he is acused of silencing the voice of ROAC in america.

You judge for your self. What is really happening.

Reader, I have written Father. 5 emsails today in fact but none of them are clear as to why what has happened has happened. I did not email you back because I was directed to Father throuh you and so that it what I did.

If this whole thing is about a WEB LIST and ho the owner is, then this is just sad because Fr. Nicholas had administrator privileges since Gregory's fiasco. Now all of a sudden these permissionsd are revoked without a reason why.

I can not judge for myself what is going on when noone talks to anyone and when I am one of the three remaining members of the Church that Father started and then abandoned.

I shall judge by the fruits of the coming weeks....

Edit:
After reading my post it may seem to others that I am angry. No, I am not angry, I am frustrated by the actions I see around me. I am frustrated to yet again be left without a Church. I am frustrated to be without the Mysteries. I know there are many out there rightr now reading this says. "See, ROAC is unstable and is not a real Church." I must admit that I myself went through this before I even left CO. I have returned now after 10 weeks of being away from the Mysteries and away from the Church and yet again the Church I love is in shambles. What else is one to think? I am left to do Reader's Services because I do not have the ability ot up and relocate to be near a church. However, I will be strong. I will wait this all out and pray that something good comes out of all of this. I do not know what that might be yet, but I wil lbe patient. For patience is a virtue I realy need to work on, so here is my chance.
