Natasha:
According to the Catholics aren't we heathens in need of conversion?

The media is the spokes people for the secular world. What they praise, concerning religion, is of this world. And for that, we should be wary. The coverage is based on political propaganda. It's like they're trying to brainwash everybody to believe that the pope was a saint. I think the next step would be that people would proclaim that miracles have happened at his tomb. Then the frenzy of such a "saintly" pope doing miracles would seal the deal for the final phase of brainwashing.
I've been watching the coverage on CNN just to see what would be said. There was a priest who even referred to the pope as Great John Paull II.
This made me shudder, because the pope was the tool for bringing all religions together. But, if anyone would state that the pope is not the tradition of the church and did more harm to seperate the people from the truth, then they would be ridiculed.

What would happen if the next Pope is from the Ukraine or is from Belarus? I have heard that there are serious contenders from these former Russian republics.
Really? Where did you hear that? I saw an interview, on CNN, that there were five contenders. Italy, Germany, Argentina, Algeria and I forget the fifth. Maybe it was two from Italy. I didn't see Belarus or Ukraine.
But, I guess, at this point, it's just speculations.
I am in COMPLETE agreement regarding the media's total unawarenss that Orthodoxy even exists! It's an unbelievable oversight, especially in these times. To the media, it seems that Christianity is divided up between Protestants and Catholics, and that is it. A few weeks ago, in the grocery check out line, TIME magazine had a cover with a sort of icon-like illustration saying "Catholics have long revered Mary as the mother of Jesus, now Protestans are looking for reasons to do so as well." I don't know exactly, it was something like that. Never mind that the greatest monastic community on earth is dedicated and preserved for the Mother of God!
CNN did mention the relationship between the Pope and Orthodoxy, specifically the ROC, and it gave a one second explanation of the schism, but then of course, yeah, CNN did call St. Peter the "first Pope." I know, I know. I guess I just needed to say before, that I was glad the media was showing respect for someone whose ideas where contrary to the typical media liberalism. I still think that the Pope's ideas about life were sincere and motivated by the teachings of Christ. Honestly, I'm sure there are men who oppose abortion because they hate woman and wish that women could be oppressed. HOWEVER, they are as mistaken as the abortion supporters who see only "convienence." I know women who will not discuss birth control (also a problem from a theological point of view, no doubt), with their boyfriends for fear of angering them, but fully support the idea of abortion should they become pregnant. How is that feminism??
Anyway, I just wanted to mention a few points about the media, I'm sorry for turning this into a rant about my own views, but hey, it's the Internet isn't it
