A long time ago, back in California we lived in an apartment that had a similar "haunting." My sis, 3 years old and given her own bedroom for the first time refused to go to sleep and have screaming fits when left alone in there. She discribed an old withered hag. A few priests came from the cathedral, and did excorsism prayers, (the apartment had already been blessed). The figure never appeared again.
Many years later, a friend of my family's was visiting from California who had lived in that neighborhood for many years before my parents moved in. When my sister described the old woman, this friend said that it was the exact description of an old Russian lady who had owned the house, and who many at the parish suspected of witchcraft.
So there are special prayers to exersise evil spirits, not just from a person, but from a place as well. Ask your priest about it.

You hit the nail right on the dot Ania. There are many things that can be done. Bring a priest to perform the Sanctification of the Waters in your home, and have him around the house blessing every single room. If not possible, get some Holy Water from Church, and do it yourself. (That is if the priest can't come himself to perform also the sanctification.) There are also Exorcisms not only for people, but places too as Ania has said. The devil can work in many ways, and using dead objects by moving them is one of them. As Ludmilla has said, Holy Icons too are needed, the Devil hates the Sacred. I hope you let yourself worry to much, have faith, pray, and by God's will you will be fine.

I read this last year in the book Elder Ambrose of Optina:

Fr. Ambrose also protected his spiritual children from temptations of the enemy. Thus Hieromonk Dorotheus related the following about himself: 'After my entrance in 1874 into Optina Monastery, the obedience of working as a cook was entrusted to me. A half a year passed, and then I began to have fears in my cell, induced by the enemy. It seemed to me as though some old man came to me and pronounced the prayer indistinctly. Dishes began to rattle n the cell for no reason. My bed shook, and the enemy attacked me. And when, in the midst of this fear, I would begin to cry out or take a breath then I would clearly hear a voice and the words: 'There's nothing worse than this, ach!' At first I went to Fr. Anatole and told him about these enemy-induced frights, but he sent me to Batiushka Ambrose. The Elder, having heard me out, said that I must not be afraid and that for the chasing away of demonic fear I must pronounce the Prayer of Jesus. After this all fear ceased and I always remained peacefully in my cell.'
