The Theotokos has appeared to us in many forms throughout the years. I have been priviledged not only to venerate the Kursk icon, but I have also venerated the Crying icon, twice.(I believe it was the Kazanskaya, but i could be wrong.) It's been years since I saw that one and often wonder what happened to it.

I also possess a photograph of the Iviron icon given to me by Brother Jose. I was fortunate to receive cotton soaked in the oil from that icon on several occassions. It has been a blessing to me in times of need.

When I was in Copenhagen a few years ago, I was able to venerate the Jerusalem Icon of the Mother of God, which had wept. You could see the traces tracking down from the eyes towards the bottom of the icon. If anyone is ever in Denmark, the Church of St Aleksandr Nevski (ROCOR) is near the Queen's palace, just down the road from the 'Marble Church', and is absolutely beautiful. I believe it was opened by Tsar Aleksandr III.

Which icon are you talking about? The one that was with Jose is lost. The Kursk icon is usually kept in the synod headquarters. I was able to venerate the icon last weekend, and have several times before.

Ania, you were at St. Nicholas Cathedral, last weekend? So was I. Did you stay for the meal after vespers and the meal on Sunday?

Anyways, two years ago, I was blessed to hold the icon while she was being put in the velvet casing. I would say she weighs about 50 lbs. I still can't believe that she let me hold her.

Vladika Laurus said that she will be brought back to bless many homes here in the next month.

Yeah, I was at St. Nicholas's that Sunday, and that was completely by chance (a horrible trip to Newark on Saturday made us decide to go to NYC rather than back to DC). My dad was there with us, and because it was his namesday the next day he had to serve vespers in Jordanville, so we left right after the akafist ended. We had the best view though throughout the service, from the choir loft (they let us sing  ).
The icon is rather heavy, though I wouldn't say by itself that it weighs 50 lbs. 3 years ago when they were cleaning it and its casing, right after my father became a priest (he lived in Jordanville for the 40 days of serving so that he could serve liturgy every morning). He called me one morning telling me to pick him up. He came out with the Kursk icon without the casing, and said that we are serving a molebin at home. Not only did I hold the icon while he was getting in and out of my car, but it was in my car, and later dad carried it throughout the entire house.
It's amazing, to think that with all the awesome power the Virgin has, she permited us to take her into our home, and me, worst of all in my family I think, to even drive her.
Hopefully I will see the icon again tomorrow, as I will be in the Synod for a funeral.

Which Sunday and which St. NIcholas Cathedral are either/both of you talking about? I suspect Joasia means Montreal on the 19th and Ania means New York on the 12th!

In any case, I was lucky enough to be in Montreal on Dec. 18/19 for what was truly an uplifting feast and a positive and inspirational step forward for the cathedral and its parishioners.

Yes, I'm talking about Montreal. According to Ania's comment about being there last weekend, that fell on Dec. 18 and 19. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Xopuct, you were there? So was I. Next time you come by, ask for me. Go to the candle room and ask for Joanna, the convert Pollak. I'm the only one there by that description. Ask Sasha or George.
