He would have probley proclaimed them Schismatics too if they didnt.
Then I dont know what is going to happen if his Synod is supporting him.

But the EP's Synod came together and voted unanimously to support this decision!

The EP's synod is a lot smaller than 41 bishops. I would love to see who actually was polled in this.

My opinion is that the territory is the bounds of the Country of Greece, which is under the care of the Archbishop of Athens. So it belongs to the National Church.

That seems to be modern practice, though that hasn't always been the case. Particularly since, I'm sure most of the episcopal sees in Greece are much older than the state of Greece itself.

Well, Nektarios/OL,
That would be a bit more complicated than just these northern sees. The Archdiocese of Crete is under the EP still, never has been under the COG; so too the eastern islands known as the Dodecanese (I think).

Also, to support this type of 'phyletism' would entail that everytime a new country is created internationally, a regular occurence since the end of European imperialism, a new Orthodox Church would be created or split from a existing one. That can't be right, or good for the Church. We already see the Church of Macedonia and the Church of Montenegro as current examples -both split from Serbia and as yet not recognized to my knowledge by any other church.

And, that argument would mean that the EP was correct to support the Church of Estonia (rended from the MP) and I don't think he was right nor do I think you would agree there either. Would you?

Good point, Daniel. By about 1500 years older.
