When I was growing up (and even to this day), I wanted to be a priest -- probably because in Orthodox families the priest is someone wise and respected. But God did not want it, and He is in charge!

OOD, please don't assume that all those outside of certain "Orthodox jurisdictions" are "in love with the world," as you write. What ever happened to humility, man??

Does anyone wish that GOD makes you something in His Church? What I mean is, does anyone wish to become an archimandrite or a reader or a monk or a schemamonk, etc etc

God forbid!
I will have enough of my own sins to account for on the Day of Judgement, without having to answer for those of the souls in my care if I were clergy.
As for being a monastic: if a layman falls it is bad enough, but only "thirtyfold" is expected of them. If a monastic falls, how much greater the fall, since "a hundredfold" will be expected from them.

:) Some relevant links:

Saint Ambrose, Three Books On The Duties Of The Clergy
Saint John Chrysostom, Treatise On The Priesthood
Saint Gregory the Great, The Book of Pastoral Rule
Saint Gregory the Theologian, Oration 2

While these works are all primarily concerned with Priests and Bishops, I think the insights and teachings are very applicable to all Christians.
