He wrote some good stuff along with some stuff that is questionable, but his good stuff is really good IMO. Here is another thread on him you may be interested in: http://www.euphrosynoscafe.com/forum/vi ... php?t=1442
Blessed Seraphim Rose...blessed or not
Quite a luminary of 20th century Orthodoxy in America, especially for a convert. Did a tremendous amount in establishing the St. Herman monastery in California, which is still thriving.
I recommend the revised biography of him ("Father Seraphim Rose: His Life and Works") instead of the original 1993 edition ("Not of This World"). The first edition was too polemical.
So what if he was homosexual before becoming Christian? He was outside of the Truth, and in all fairness, how was he supposed to know? As detailed thoroughly in his biographies, the protestant churches are utterly POWERLESS to combat this sexual immorality, as we see all-too-clearly these days.
The important thing is that after becoming a Christian he repented and gave this up. "God desires not the death of a sinner, but that he turn from his sins and live."
If only Orthodoxy could save more of modern, secularist America, as it saved Father Seraphim.
