A reality in the French-speaking word is that the vocabulary of people has been going down, including the knowledge of several words. A teacher of religion (orthodox) explained me that she had to explain some basic words that were entirely unknown, or misunderstood (among orthodox pupils).

For instance, they did not know the word "adultery" and thought this was related to the fact of becoming "adult".

In such circumstances, trying to make a mission in a foreign language is adding an extralevel of complexity.

Interesting to know. That's a good example, since it would be difficult to distinguish between these 2 words, which one never thinks about but ARE so different in meaning.

So literacy is declining in Europe, too, not JUST the USA ? All over or in the francophone areas ?
