This area, Buratyia, is traditionally Buddhist, as witnessed by the buildings seen here.

But famous Russian Orthodox missionaries came here and converted many Buriats etc. to Orthodoxy. I studied the diary of one of them in an Orthodox Life, though I have forgotten the Priest's name.
What he had to go through was incredible, though !

Gorgeous view of Yakutsk ! I have always wanted to visit there, almost did but didn't have enough time when in Siberia.
[I wanted to get bac to Kiev for St Vladimir's Day, which i did manage to do.]
