The persecution was severe there as various testimonies attest to. Sadly for many years Romania was seen in the West as more moderate. To the extent the president was even at one point a guest of the Queen.
That is why I wonder about the link provided above. It appears that the World Orthodox and the Old Calendar Orthodox of the Slatioara Synod had both been approved by the communists. That gives the impression that they were not persecuted.
