For Russian speakers-Synod report on what took place in Ireland. Basically says that the event was caused by circumstance and the fact that the Kursk Root Icon was there , but it took place without the bishop's blessing. The action doesn't correspond to the Synod's standard of behavior and shouldn't be repeated.

Lying priest or ROCOR cover-up?

Post by Lounger »

Somebody is lying then, as the priest has said that he had MARK's permission!

Is this to be found anywhere on the net? The item by Fr. Geoffrey does not mention this.

Dear All,

I think Lounger may have may have confused the facts. I also didn't see anything that showed that ARCHBISHOP MARK gave permission for this. Below is from the Synod site.

Statement from the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia

A concelebration of two clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia with two clergymen of the Constantinople Patriarchate occurred in Ireland.

This concelebration took place without the blessing of Archbishop Mark. It occurred under an unexpected confluence of circumstances, the visit of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God and, at the same time, great inspiration on the part of the entire church gathering and clergymen who were present. This does not correspond with the norm of our behavior and should not be repeated in this manner.

We are grateful that the Greek parish allows the parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in Dublin the possibility of performing services in their church, but this must not serve as an excuse for the arbitrary actions in regard to canonical law.

Thank you for posting that, Savva. /\ Does anyone have any word as to whether anything was said/done with the priest? I ask not because I personally want something in particular to be said/happen to the priest, but only because I'm trying to fully understand how ROCOR is handling this situation.
