He almost seems to be blaming the pants, rather than the social trends of which the pants are merely a symptom.

I have noticed that in my male-dominated field, I almost feel vulnerable wearing a skirt, as if I'm throwing my femininity in the professors' and male students' faces. "Look! I'm a girl! I'm different!"

I sometimes wonder whether Orthodox Christians attacked men for wearing pants when they first started wearing them. "Jesus didn't wear pants! The Saints didn't wear pants! And now you bring this innovation in? Why!?" :ohvey: \/ I'll never understand why people react so strongly against a female wearing pants to work, for taking a walk, etc., when this is a perfectly acceptable, neutral thing in the American culture, and is not "masculine". It's telling that people will sometimes say that girls shouldn't wear pants because they show aspects of her body a little too much... ie. they emphasise her feminine body shape, and then turn around and say that pants are masculine.

Okay, I wasn't saying that I think pants are indicative of a disturbing social trend. I'm just saying that if the author wanted to "attack" the wearing of pants, he shouldn't have attacked the pants themselves.

As I said, I sometimes feel awkward wearing a skirt at work/school. (Just a comment) I personally like the way skirts look, so I sometimes wear them outside of church. I'm not opposed to pants. Actually, I'm wearing a pair right now.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get on anyone in particular.. I hope I didn't offend or rub you the wrong way! I've actually been wanting to say that for a couple weeks now on a couple different threads, but have resisted the temptation. I guess I just figured now was the time :)

And wearing the wrong pants sometimes emphasizes the masculine body shape, as well.

I vote for everyone going back to wearing togas, as did the Christians in Rome. That way, no one gets to wear the pants, (or trousers, in this case).
