REBEL MONKS - Rapporteur proposes Mt Athos eviction
http://www.ekathimerini.com - Date: 5-28-2003 - The Council of State is to issue a final ruling during the summer as to whether 93 ultra-orthodox monks should leave the 1,000-year-old Esphigmenou Monastery on Mount Athos after yesterday
In the article linked above, Bartholomew goes on to say: "The bigot is primarily a scared and uncertain person and in the depth of his existence is not absolutely convinced of the truth of his faith. On the contrary, those convinced of their faith are peaceful, uneventful and friendly to all." (ecuspeak for syncretism)
I would say that this stereotype, while maybe true for many real bigots, is also unequivocally true for "orthodox" ecumenists. For if they were really convinced and solid in their faith, they would also know that there is no other and be working diligently to bring people to the Ark to save their souls, that is of course if they really love them.
A man such as this would not have stood for a moment in prayer with St. Basil.
