Very Important Poll Question for All Posters!

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Should Baptismal or legal names be required for everyone?

Poll ended at Fri 30 September 2005 7:22 pm

Absolutely. Either the name or a derivative of the Baptismal/legal name.

Absolutely. But not nick-names (i.e. Tom should be Thomas) please!

No way! I do not want people knowing my Baptismal/Legal name, or what religion I am!

I have no opinion.

My good friend TomS, I think you have fallen off that ladder, one to many times.

You kidding me? I think the rungs on my ladder have grease on them! :)

\/ I have answered, "no opinion". I do not see either the purpose or any advantage to be gained. The Euphrosynos Cafe is already a somewhat 'quiet' venue and I cannot see that such a change will help, save for generating a momentary 'dash' of activity?

Here's my two cents...
I rarely read or post here anymore. My username changed when I got a new computer; I'm not very computer literate and I tried to get it back to the original, but failed...
My baptismal name is my name, but like what was said in a previous post, I think the posting of names has more disadvantages than profit.
That said, it will not change my current status with this forum if there is a rules change, but I will suggest this:
If we're gonna get all proper, we also need to address each other as Mr., Mrs., Miss, Dr., etc.

On a more serious note: You can require a "Christian" or "Saints" name all you want.....it's no guarantee that people will use their "real" name.

Good, it is so obvious!! Or maybe we will be asked to send a copy of our baptismal act and of our identity card...

Would it be possible to know the reason that this is up for discussion, please?

I recall that a rule of this sort was done on an RC forum, something like "MyCatholic". It was taken over by a new owner and he and the main admin/mod woman said that all had to be by real name. They then closed the forum to public view.

I certainly have not hidden that I am not EO and it is on my profile in the "Interests" section.

Sure thing, it had been requested by a number of members and wedecided to run a poll to let the posters themselves do the deciding.

Katina has a good point. The question I would have, would it be the English version of the name or the Russian (Slavonic) version. I also agree to include jurisdiction, since the air of unification is so apparent these days, may help and of course still welcoming our by-way Protestant friends.

English, Russian/Slavonic, Greek,or really any language would be okay IMO.
