You are right. Constructive talks are needed to solving this problem. Your Father the ArchBishop of Your Synod where You were Baptized is going to be in town for this specific reason. Please do attend and let's put this nightmare to rest. You can even bring Your british friend and save him the time of writing "open-letters". He can have the opportunity to speak to the ArchBishop face to face as is proper protocol when dealing with Church Hierarchy. Amen.
