Enchanting pics of Orthodox areas

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Buryatia -sorry i don't know why showed up on the screen when the 2 attachment ones are invisible on my Draft here.
There's an empty space that I see, but the pictures seem to be indelibly carved into this post, despite my trying and trying to delete them !

This picture of Kolyma, the notorious Soviet gulag camp in the far north of Siberia, is anything BUT enchanting

Nonetheless, it's a reminder of the harsh reality of what went on in this region only some decades ago. VERY SAD !
For Kolyma was one of the harshest - if not the very worst - of the concentration camps [shudder !!]

If anyone remembers, the writer Anne Applebaum wrote a book about the Gulag some years ago.

Just today, I noticed that she is on the list of attendees of the Bilderberger Group meeting in Stockholm, which opened today.

She is now a writer for The Atlantic.
Strange that she would be one of those invited...i would not trust, therefore, whatever she has written since her Gulag book.
