I did some more research into television and I discovered some interesting things. There is so much to write about, Ill do it over a few posts.
The man who invented the Cathode ray tube, William Crookes, was involved in spiritualism (communication with the dead, seances, channeling etc.), and believed the stream of electrons comprising the ray could be controlled by spirits. Around the same time, Thomas Edison, also a spiritualist, attempted to develop a 'spirit phone' to allow communication between the worlds. This was before materialism became a strict Dogma in science, and there was a belief among many prominent scientists that technology could be used to open doorways into the realm of spirits. It also noteworthy that Edison was also granted a patent for the motion picture camera or "Kinetograph", and was the first to demonstrate wireless communication using pulsed light beams.
As Christians, we recognise that no such doorway need be constructed as Satan is already the prince of this world and has access to the mind of every person, according to the extent that God allows, either for training in virtue or, in the case of those outside the Church, as the invisible director of the Kingdom of Man. However, there is no reason to rule out the possibility that technological advancement might not extend the reach of demonic influence, enhance its effects, or even focus it and direct it, similar to the way those who raise and form pacts with demons perform sorcery, or gain powers that would seem to go beyond the laws of nature.
In his book 'The spiritual life and how to be attuned to it' Saint Theophan the Recluse explains the activity of Angels and Demons, and the help and intercession of the saints, by reference to the aether. He writes:
'... at one time I began talking with you about an exceedingly subtle element that is finer than light. It is called aether. Let us suppose that it exists as a matter of fact, and not just in name. I recognize that such a very subtle element exists, and that it penetrates and passes everywhere, serving as the smallest particle of material substance. Along with this, I suppose that within this element soar all the blessed spirits - the angels and Divine saints - who are themselves garbed in a kind of raiment made of that very same element. The covering of our soul (understand this word to refer also to the spirit, which is the soul of our human soul) is also made of this very same element. The soul itself is the immaterial spirit; but it's covering is made from this ethereal immaterial element. Our bodies are coarse; built that covering of the soul is very fine and serves as the intermediary between the soul and body. Through it the soul acts on the body, and the body on the soul. Just keep in mind that the soul has this very fine covering, and that our souls have the very same kind of covering as do all spirits. from this it will not be hard for you to conclude that this omnipresent element, very fine, out of which these coverings are made and in which all spirits soar, is the intermediary for the intermingling of our souls and these spirits.'
Prior to the general acceptance of special relativity, developed in 1905, aether was widely accepted as the medium through which electromagnetic or gravitational forces propagated. Although Einstein himself admitted that his theory assigned physical properties to empty space, so could itself be thought of as an aether theory.
Considering that a general disbelief in the medium the immaterial beings inhabited roughly coincided with the rise of practical wireless communications via that medium, we could perhaps regard it as a form of false retreat by the demonic forces, tempting the vanity of man, and inviting him to consider himself the master of not only the physical, but the spiritual, unseen realm also. I like to consider the collective impact of what is regarded as 'common knowledge,' as, even if it is unproven or open to serious question, this kind of knowledge defines the scientific ground of the 'spirit of the age' and possesses great power among the masses who tend to view the scientists who create this consensus as a kind of priesthood of materialism. We have all seen this with evolution, a dogma even many Christians find hard to question.
Practical applications of radio and remote control technology were pioneered by Tesla, who was not an Orthodox Christian (he denied the after life and even promoted a form of eugenics), but did believe in the aether, and rejected the whole notion of a divisible atom and relativity. He perfected those technologies in the late 1800's and is rarely acknowledged in standard education, perhaps because he did not support the consensus denial of the aether. He didn't draft his inventions the usual way but imagined the entire concept down to it's specific dimensions within his mind and it is said some designs arrived fully formed in his imagination without any effort.
I read a biography of Tesla and it claimed that he was a depressive personality. I don't have the book anymore so I cannot quote it here, but when I read that this is what immediately sprang to mind:
He (Antichrist) will also give depraved knowledge to an unhappy man so that he will discover a way by which one man can carry on a conversation with another from one end of Earth to another. - Prophecy of Saint Nilos Hermit of Mount Athos.
It seems that scientific knowledge is managed by the demonic realm, helping those who are open to their promptings to imagine on the one hand practical applications for the focusing and propagation of the Antichrist spirit through communications (T.V. radio, film etc.) while on the other, inspiring and promoting, through the vain herd mentality of scientism, only theories that would obscure their existence more and more, ultimately using those technologies to impose it's false realities on the general population. This creates a sense that scientific man is godlike in his ability to understand and manipulate nature, just as the sorcerers of old intimidated and dominated ancient pagan cultures through their harnessing of demonic power.
Also from the saints prophecy:
He will so complete science with vanity that it will go off the right path and lead people to lose faith in the existence of God in three Persons.
Television, in my view, combines a propaganda aspect achieved through it's messages, a hypnotic aspect achieved by a combination of frame rate frequency, and audio/visual symbolic and graphical effects, and a direct, though unseen, physical effect on the soul's aetheric covering by radiation and electromagnetic field propagation.
