Bogatyr,
Thanks for the post. I think I too would consider the ROCOR schismatic if they left the true path and joined the MP.

ROCOR not "schismatic"

Post by Bogatyr »

I won't go so far as to call anyone in the goblin soup of Russian jurisdictions "schismatic", including the most liberal. There are liberal activities and practices, but, no, it does no good to pass judgement. We must always remember to honour the past, even if we choose the path of separation. It is in this that we can regain the day once the novelty is spent and rational heads again prevail. Perhaps, God has a larger plan.

I e-mailed the priest at the above mentioned parish and got a very quick response. Their church is modeled on the ancient Greek practice; its type is found at the church of St Luke in Central Greece; the church that St Nicholas of Myra in Lyceia served in was arranged in the same manner, as was the Orthodox chapel at Dachau. The icons of Jesus and the Theotokos comprise the icon screen; the other icons are behind the altar!

And using that excuse they explain the pews how??? LOL!

third century pews . . .

Post by mwoerl »

Nicholas,

i forgot all about the pews! i mean, it is soooooooo "OCA" to have pews, that i just didn't even remember to mention it.

and, there IS an explanation for those pews{!!!!}, although not one quite as interesting and -uh- shall we say "learned" as the one about no iconostases in the third century!

this very same priest in dayton, when i once asked him about the pews in his parish church before their new church was built, told me this:

"i grew up in the carpatho-russian church. [possibly everyone involved in the forum here is -um- informed about the carpatho-russian church? their current bishop nicholas, a few years back, addressing a group of ukrainian uniate bishops, informed those ukrainian uniate bishops that they were "the heirs of saints vladimir and olga." need more be said?] from the first time i went to church i remember that there were pews in the church. so don't tell me that orthodox churches don't have pews!"

so, apparently, both the 3rd and 20th centuries have spoken! both no iconostas in appeal to the 3rd century, and pews in appeal to the 20th century-so no iconsotas and pews are now forever vindicated, and proven as 'meet and right.' but you know, he did not tell me what century "spoke" through his assertion that the holy sepulchre was "junked up" by all those icons and vigil lamps . . .

To answer the question; I would be elated; it is long overdue.
Also, though unfortunately I am sure it will not happen, I would like to see Putin (under the guidance of the Church, of course) return all the properties to the MP now occupied by the fringe groups HOCNA, ROAC, FROC, ROCIE, NAACP, whoever. It would be equally satisfying to see our neocon President label these same groups as terrorists.
The best thing that can happen with a formal reunification will be that the spotlight will shine on and expose these charlatans for what they are.
Join the herd or get run over by the herd.
-IF- this decision proves to be one that is disasterous, then I can always go to the Serbs or the JP in Georgia, or the Greeks here at home. NEVER would I associate with those splinter groups. Someone mentioned the Old Believers; they don't even like smokers; what kind of leftist graham is that?

Indeed Paleocon Indeed. And maybe once the reunion gets started, the russian church can finally get back to the really important things like glorifying stalin.

Sieg Heil!

I realize that the above statement was an attempt at sarcasm, but it is still ignorant and offensive-whatever your religious affiliations may be.
