For sure, watching the video is one thing I'm not about to waste time doing

Oh, good ! Thank you for saying that, Joel.
I can't stand any video by a current popular figure. I would NEVER trust them to have discernment on more than maybe one topic. The rest of the important subjects, they would be far away from the truth.
We can tell THAT, because IF they had REAL truth, they would never be out in the public eye, let alone build up their reputation as a much-heralded figure today.
On the Orthodox scale, for an example, we can think of New Calendar advocate and solid GOARCH member Elder Ephraim of Arizona.
Why not instead read the classic Lives of Optina Elders ?? These biographical accounts never age at all - the spiritual life lessons are just as fresh and relevant as they were when the biographies were compiled.
It's not worth wasting time to watch a contemporary video in order to hear the lecturer's one kernel that MIGHT be true : what's the point ?!
That's my approach.
Though any other members may have a different idea.

I agree with you, Barbara, as a go-against-the-grain Christian, that someone being famous and prominent literally makes me less inclined to take them seriously as a custodian of the Truth. Unfortunately many people have that backwards.

Nice to meet you, Stylite Nous !
Well put, that's how it is ! The more famous, the less useful for the purposes of serious spiritual people.

I have not exactly been a fan of JP over the years but he's helped put many people on a path away from nihilism -- and on that new path they have the opportunity to find the truth. I read a few of Jung's works in both English and German when I was younger. They're interesting as a piece of intellectual history but are perfectly consistent with the religious indifferentism and syncretism that plague the modern mind. JP has come out of that to some degree and may come further.

So, where is he now, then ? A semi-believer ? I know zero about him. Is he debunking atheism primarily, as it sounds from what you said ? Or is he to the point of talking about the need for a concrete, valid religion ?
