Fanciest Mercedes in the world

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Fanciest Mercedes in the world

Post by Barbara »

In case anyone is feeling poor, here is a little remedy.

It's supposed to be a video, so if you feel like watching, it's only 29 seconds, but captures the diamond-embedded Mercedes car found in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

There are said to be 300,000 diamonds flashing in the desert sun on each one of these [rare] luxury cars. I don't know how many are/were made, but probably about 10.

They are fun to look at for a change of scenery from the bleak winter weather !

As someone who works in the jewellery industry, it would be a living nightmare to drive and maintain the car

That's funny ! Are you thinking that each diamond will need have it facets polished regularly - ?!

In what section of the jewelry industry do you work ? Sounds intriguing.

Hi Barbara! I’d say so, yes. A bigger fear is the diamond scratching and popping out with any dings and bangs the car experiences.

I work as a retail associate/consultant for a New York based company who specialises in diamonds and gemstones (precious and semi precious)

What a great job ! How fun it sounds. Do you have any idea where diamonds can be found that are NOT from Antwerp ? 5 or more years ago, I was inquiring into some question at a jewelers. All they had all over the store, and ALL the staff talked about was Antwerp diamonds.

I would not want those, do not feel right.

Are there any other sources for diamonds that are nice quality in today's world ? I mean, that you happen to know of ? If you don't, that's fine. I am merely curious what happened to the diamond market in recent decade or two or more that Antwerp seems to monopolize it.

Well i wonder whether the dazzlers set into the paint coat of the Mercedes are glued in ? If so, you are right : any adverse condition including hot weather could dislodge them.
Imagine, what would the despairing owner DO then ?!

In case anyone has been wondering about this - here is the authoritative answer to the question

"Where did the name Mercedes originate for the world-renowned luxury car line ?" :

I just saw a posting of that very same picture.
This time it was billed as a -

$48 MILLION dollar diamond-encrusted Mercedes owned by a Saudi prince of the name al-Waleed mentioned on the caption above.
This purported royal from the house of al-Saud is alleged to charge $1000 JUST for anyone to touch the scratchy car ! True or not, I don't know.

One thing is certain : the picture is making the rounds still, but under new story lines.
