I just wanted to share my excitement about this healthy diet. Green smoothies provides all the minerals, vitamins and nutrients we need. I bought a Ninja Master Prep which creates the best smoothies. And it's perfect for Great Lent. And there's no oil involved.

I just chose this link to show the appliance. I got mine at Canadian Tire for $40, on sale. The regular cost is $70 CDN.

I got this from a book (page 4) called Liquid Nutrition by Joanne Gero N.D. It's published by Vibe Alive located in Laval, Qc. Anyway, search for green smoothie recipes online and choose what you like. Let's share our green smoothie recipes.

Ultimate thirst quencher, powerful health kick, the ultimate energizer, nutritious and delicious, it must be a Smoothie. Whether fruit or fruit / vegetable these fantastic tasting liquid concoctions can be introduced into our lifestyles as an excellent addition to living healthier lives.

Smoothies are power-packed with nutrients.
Smoothies and raw juices are some of the most nutrient-dense meals ever. Smoothies made with fresh fruit and greens, will deliver more antioxidants and phytonutrients than a full day’s worth of meals normally eaten by a person. By having a Smoothie every morning, you start off your day with the protection of antioxidants, an incredible array of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, while having the energy and calories you need to get through your busy day.

Because it’s been blended, Smoothies and juices are easier to digest, allowing for better absorption. This allows our body to process the food without having to expend so much energy on digestion and assimilation – that’s why you can almost feel an instant energizing feeling from drinking Smoothies!

Oh good! Because my first attempt was this morning and didn't turn out too thick. I didn't blend it enough because I was afraid to disturb my sleeping neighbors so it was still gritty. I'll try again tomorrow. I used kale, banana and apple. But, maybe I should use an avocado instead. Do you have a good ratio that gets it think enough? Any good recipes? I hope to get it down right by the time Great Lent comes. :)

Try adding a handful of almonds (unsalted). That will thicken it up, add a lovely roasted almond flavour, and provide some healthy fats.

Several years ago, when my husband and I got hit with a nasty stomach virus, I made a smoothie out of brown rice, raisins, and apples. For my husband's smoothie, I added a banana. It was delicious and helped comfort our stomach too.

Yes, i heard that both rice and bananas are very good for the stomach. Is it true that rice has the property to draw out and neutralise toxins?

It must. Doctors prescribe the BRAT or BRATY diet for stomach virus.
B = Bananas
R = Rice
A = Apples
T = Wheat Toast
Y = Yogurt

For a persistent stomach virus, it is best to eat one food at a time so as not to overload the stomach.

However, during Lent, a great smoothie can be made by blending the following:

1 organic banana
1/2 to 1 cup cooked organic brown rice
1 organic peeled apple
1 to 2 leaves of Kale
1 carrot
Unfiltered organic apple juice as needed to blend all these ingredients
