An email I got for public consumption
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Glory to Jesus Christ!!!
I have been getting a great deal of e-mail and phone calls asking questions about our monastery and our recent move to the Jerusalem Patriarchate, so to avoid so much repetition, hopefully I can answer a most questions here.
Yes, the Monastery of the Glorious Ascension has moved from the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, this was done at the request of the Brotherhood, with a canonical release issued by ROCOR signed by His Eminence, Met. Laurus, First Hierarch of the Church Abroad, dated June 15/29 2003.
In answer to many questions as to " why?" I quote from our request for release sent to Met.Laurus:
...the Church Abroad has given us the opportunity to be on the Church's calendar, to stay clear of untoward ecumenism, and to reject any and all liturgical innovations. We are indeed grateful for being able to hold to this Tradition.
In our conversations with various hierarchs, clergy, and laity, we have come to realize that the Church of Jerusalem maintains all of the above positions and yet, at the same time, is able to preserve Eucharistic Communion and uphold fraternal relation-ships with all the Orthodox Churches without in any way compromising her fidelity to the Holy Tradition of the Orthodox Church.
After much prayer and soul-searching, the Members of the Brotherhood of the Monastery of the Glorious Ascension have unanimously come to the conclusion that, for our spiritual peace, welfare, and growth, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem is where we should be. To this end, Patriarch Irenaeus and Metropolitan Damaskinos have indicated their desire of receive us. Therefore, we, the Clerical Members of the Brotherhood, respectfully petition Your Eminence to grant us a Canonical Release to the Church of Jerusalem that, under the Omophorion of the Successor of Saint James, the Brother of the Lord, we may practice the Orthodox Faith and work out our salvation.
We do not make this request without considerable prayer and thought over a relatively long period of time. In asking to make this move, in no way do we reject the Church Abroad or our friends in it. For almost a century, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia has been a bright light and unique support of Orthodoxy, not only in America, but also throughout the world. Nevertheless, we must follow the dictates of our conscience.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmmm
2 interesting things to note:
The JP had no bishops, nor monks that could become a bishop in this country. Now there is a monastery in America full of JP monks and American bishops would logicaly be chosen from them.
Although the JP and ROCOR are in communion, Bishop Gabriel has forbidden members of ROCOR to receive any mysteries in the Glorious Ascension Monastery that just left ROCOR for the JP.
There are obviously things going on behind the scenes in this switcheroonie.

Where are you getting this information that Vladyka Gabriel has forbidden this?
I would imagine it only applies to members of his diocese?
