I wonder why they would want to build it. Its only purpose is for animal sacrifices. When that was destroyed, their priests lost their jobs. People couldn't offer sacrifices anywhere else. That's why they had to make pilgrimages to the Temple. The synagogues are their house of worship which they did in their local towns. That's where Jesus Christ and the Apostles went to preach.
According to rabbinical law, all Jews are ritually unclean since no sacrifices are being made on their behalf. That's the motivation for rebuilding the temple. I think the rabbis have traditionally been against rebuilding it because of uncertainty over where the Holy of Holies lies, and they interpret the Messianic prophecies to mean that the Messiah will instruct them how to rebuild the Temple. It was the Muslims who obliterated most of the Temple ruins; before the Muslims conquered Jerusalem, I think you could still tell from the ruins where the Holy of Holies was located. The Christian rulers left the ruins alone as a sign of the passing of the Old Law, though they forbade the Jews from rebuilding the Temple. The Jews did attempt to rebuild it under Julian the Apostate, but they were prevented from completing it by an earthquake.

Ah. Ok. That makes sense. Question: How will they get priests to perform the sacrifices if they are already unclean? Meaning, if they are unclean, they can't start performing the sacrifices.
I'm not sure that's an issue. They weren't able to perform sacrifices when they were in exile in Babylon, but after King Cyrus let them return to the Holy Land they rebuilt it and resumed sacrifices.
God forbid that such a thing should happen.

So, basically, they don't follow their own laws.
