Hello, Ania!

You sparked my curiosity with the observation that OCA parishes are serving the Liturgy in modern Russian, rather than in Church Slavonic. I never had heard of that; it seems too oddball to be true. We have Vigil/Liturgy at the [O.C.A.] Cathedral here twice a month, and never have used anything other than Slavonic.

I know many churches still use Slavonic, but other parishes have integrated Russian. The OCA cathedral of St. Nicholas here in DC on Massachusetts Ave. has incorporated Russian into many of the readings & litanies. As I work for a translation company, and am familiar with both Slavonic & Russian, I recognized the translation as poor, using too many words, and basicly just horribly done. I actually have nothing against liturgy being served in Russian, my one stipulation... make it good Russian, translated well.

Also, and I don't wish to spar over this, some of the (lamentable amongst Christians) property "seizures" surely could have been settled more peaceably than they were. It's a matter of perspective and inclination, also, as to "who seized from whom."

I don't wish to spar either.
Propery seizures could definately have been handled better. On the side of ROCOR, I am aware of several instances where property loss could have been prevented by SIMPLY SHOWING UP AT COURT!!! But anyway, quite honestly I don't think the subject of relations between ROCOR & OCA are relevent right now.

As for Ania:

I believe that Serbian Patriarch doesn't admit to be in communion with ROCOR (then Is this an unilateral communion?)

I believe it does, otherwise it wouldn't allow its clergy to serve in ROCOR churches, or make priests out of people who attended ROCOR seminary.

Beloved in Christ, Ania:

I know that between ROCOR and Serbian Patriarchate there are strong knots (that can it turns in their history)
The Serbian patriarch every time that was consulted by these "irregularities", He saids that they not is in communion with ROCOR. Because if this way ROCOR would be already in communion with Moscow Patriarchate and now there would not be necessity "to unite" in communion.

Father Thomas Hopko of OCA has given courses and conferences in Jordanville and for this reason we cannot say that he is in communion with ROCOR. He celebrates liturgy for the 20th anniversary of the Respose of Fr Seraphim Rose, where was also Hieromonk Ambrose (former Fr Alexey Young) - although without celebration vestment - and however both they are not in communion

Serbia & ROCOR & the OCA Schism from the ROCA.

Here is the ROCOR & Serbian relationship from Pat. Pavle (who says that ROCOR is "anticanonical and worthy of every condemnation" and some letters from his American Metropolitan and Bishops: http://www.euphrosynoscafe.com/forum/vi ... .php?t=822

And here is a thread on the OCA schism from the ROCA:

Dear Father Nikolai:

Exact, this is one of the Patriarch Pavle's declarations that I referred.

Thank you

Forgive me Father Deacon, but when I read his statement he does not say the ROCOR is anticanonical; only thier actions of sending priest (Bishops) into Russia.

"This brotherly relationship continued only until, after the fall of the communists, the representatives of the Russian Church Abroad started to spread their priesthood onto the territory of Russia, thereby violating the canonical authority of the Russian patriarchate. The Sacred Synod has more than once directed its protests to the leadership of the Russian Church Abroad in America and demanded that it cease from such actions since they are anticanonical and worthy of every condemnation."

as ever asking your prayer

Dear Mykael,

Code: Select all

Seeing you write that, it is I who should be apologizing, since I was seeing the the adjective of "they are anticanonical and worthy of every condemnation" being related to the subject of "the leadership of the Russian Church Abroad in America", rather than to the subject of "such actions". But now, with your pointing this out, they probably were indeed speaking of ROCOR's actions, rather than its leadership. Thank you for correcting me in Christian charity and love.

On your other point, of course you shall remain in my prayers. I ask that you keep me in yours as well.
