What seem our worst prayers may really be, in God's eyes, our best. Those, I mean, which are least supported by devotional feeling. For these may come from a deeper level than feeling. God sometimes seems to speak to us most intimately when he catches us, as it were, off our guard.

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

The body, being only the temporal garment of the soul, is perishable, and does not constitute the true life of the man. The true life is the spiritual life. If you rend, if you destroy the man's garment, still he himself remains alive; so also after the slaying, after the death, the corruption of the body, the soul remains alive. Let us then chiefly care for the soul, for its salvation!"

Among mortals second thoughts are wisest.

Euripides

...The war which the demons wage against us by means of thoughts is more severe than the war they wage by means of material things.

Cleverness is not wisdom.

Euripides

A wise man, whether teaching or learning, only wishes to learn or teach those things which are useful.

St. Maximos the Confessor (First Century on Theology no. 28)

Down on your knees, and thank heaven, fasting, for a good man's (or woman's) love.

Do not plan for ventures before finishing what's at hand.
