Sure we were motiviated; people were trying to find out if this was true, if Bp. Pablos had gone crazy, or what. Even Met. Evloghios (before he left us) was angry. There are procedures, and, they aren't ones that imagine waiting 100 years or for eternity for a great council to be convened or endless degrees of legalism, there is a middle way between doing absolutely nothing and remaining in communion with people no matter what (like the World Orthodox), and just breaking communion with every sister church based upon a disobedient bishop before a reasonable answer time can be given. I remember years ago (well 2 years ago), when someone asked, "Well if your synod ever joins the Patriarchates, will you and your people in America do anything more than just a symbolic protests and then nothing." I responded, "Yes, we will never go along with that, and if it comes to that last step, we will have to break communion." And they responded, "Oh no, you guys don't care, you all really secretly want to join one of the patriarchs, blah, blah, blah."
The point is, a problem is identified, you make phone calls, you try to contact witness, you try and see who is running the website, you try and identify what happened, when it happened, is the information on a website accurate, is it distorted. You contact other bishops, you ask the then Metropolitan, and when that's done you ask what are the details that make it worse and worthy of harsh penalties or what? At that point you have to say, "Did they pray with heterodox?" Then a suspension at the very least under some merciful terms, if not something far harsher. "Did they order their clergy to give soft ball speeches minimizing the difference?" Then disicipline and censure from the Synod, with a requirement not to do so again, or suspension will result. When this was all happening, guess what? The Milan Synod gave us a tomos, and despite this, Met. Evloghios at the time still wanted us to investigate the matter; but, of course, Bp. Pablos was not talking to anyone, and was refusing to appear. Then this whole MP thing shows up, which means that Pablos is the least of our worries, and when the Europeans broke communion, there was no need, since Spain initially went, and our communion was severed, problem solved.
What you should't do, is follow the advice of enemies in World Orthodoxy (you), who only care about stirring up trouble, and feel they can give orders about how procedures are to be followed, and investigations are to be conducted, and that we should constantly keep you informed about every phone call, and about every affirmation or denial, and about who ran this website, and who did this, and about so-and-so saying "NO, this didn't happen, and it was Fr. X who got it together without Bp. X permission, and his friends run the website," or about some other phoen call which says, "Bp. X gave Fr. Z permission and he did this, but,Bp. X has lost his mind, and FR. Z is a bad priest, so don't punish us who protested this, " Or about another phone call which says, "Bp. X gave permission and he had this done, and understood it, and now he's not talking about it, and he personally refused to answer so, and so," and then no one can get in contact with Bishop X, and etc, etc, etc. Sorry we didn't post all the conversations, and letters, and actual representative through proxy to talk to so and so, and found what happened. Oh, Saints Above! Forgive us for not allowing the Grand High Elder Reader of Internet Orthodoxy to know all the events in our investigations as they happened! Oh Great Elder, we have sinned against you, and Internet Orthodoxy!
If you couldn't tell, I'm being fecetious, so, forgive me.
