Fr Stephen De Young asserts the typical scare tactic nonsense that "joining TO means you're in some trailer park or garage with like 5 people" I've heard from many world orthodox online.
@2:32:39 in case the timestamp doesn't work.

I'm curious what he'd think of St John Maximovitch and would've he been someone in the saint's time to oppose him simply for this?

I just wanted people from world orthodox, if they're lurking, to be aware that this is a horrible attempt at arguing, and that world orthodox like him seem to conflate the prestige of having an official building with being a part of the Church. In fact, I've visited years ago when I was with the world orthodox, mission parishes that were tiny dinky rooms.

RIGHT ! GOOD for YOU, NektariosLopez !
When you mentioned "Church in a garage", the 1st thing my mind went to was St John in Paris, too !

Great that you make a thread about this, so everybody who reads E.C. will see it and take pause before demeaning True Orthodox !

Everyone starting up new parishes has to start out SOMEWHERE !

Poor St John was in that garage only because of the large rue Daru Cathedral having been handed to Met. Evlogy. I have forgotten how that disaster came about, but St John just did what he could to continue on with a Rocor presence in northern France.
