Notre-Dame Cathedral roof burns, spire falls

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

The reopening ceremony was Saturday, December 7 2024. That's strange by itself ; it should surely have been Sunday, December 8, the Catholic Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which has many historical connections for France.

But perhaps the world leaders and celebrities would have been too busy at their secular activities that Sunday to attend...

Here is a not very good France 24 [English language channel] video.
It does show the opening of the massive doors and a few highlights of that day with a pretty scene of Notre Dame's facade toward the end :

Picture from Courthouse News article of Dec 9, 2024. The article lists the celebrities present and highlights the fact that Zelensky was the only head of state to receive applause. According to the article, this was thunderous.

Hopefully, Zelensky will be gone from his office soonest !!!

If anyone noticed, the word "Mass" was de-capitalized in the France 24 clip. That's how Protestants and others write the word for the Roman Catholic Liturgy. It's a way of denigrating its importance, of course.

From a US news station, that would be probably expected. But in France, always known til recent decades respectfully as "the eldest Daughter of the Church", it's a slight by likely secular newscasters.
