The colors were faint but they danced for over an hour!

Aurora alerts promised an epic solar storm. Not wanting to go photograph the same location as the last storm, I decided to hike Pyramid Peak high above Lake Crescent. When I arrived I was a little disappointed by the trees blocking my views to the direct north. All in all I think it was a welcome addition to the image. not just the same ol aurora image.

This solar event was global, so here are several shots from down under:

We had almost 4.5 hours late impact from the sun, so unfortunately the twilight has already begun at that timing.
3rd photo was taken at 13:50 UTC on 23rd Jun 2015.

Glorious red aurora dated August 9, 2015 is from Alberta, Canada. Taken by Ottó Méhes. The Milky Way is barely visible on the right hand side above the notch in the mountains with the green glow peaking through.
Usually, we in the Northern Hemisphere do not have auroras during the summer time, but this year has been different.

A purple aurora is considered within the red spectrum.
Here is a very unusual purple aurora.
A RARE FORM OF AURORAS: A surprisingly strong G3-class geomagnetic storm erupted on Aug. 15th when a CME hit Earth's magnetic field. Two nights later, as the storm was subsiding, midnight sky watchers in North America witnessed a rare and beautiful form of aurora--a "proton arc." Paul Zizka photographed the phenomenon on Aug. 17th from Banff, Alberta:
"It was incredible," says Zizka. "The whitish pillar remained nearly stationary for over 30 minutes--enough time for a self-portrait."
In Val Marie, Saskatchewan, photographer Sherri Grant saw a purple proton arc cutting across the Milky Way. And in Oroville, Washington, at the Table Mountain Star Party, campers witnessed at least two more arcs.

This one below reminds me of a lightsaber laser light from Star Wars.

More auroras are expected and in a few nights, we will have a G7 with auroras visible possible in California.
