Father Thomas Hopko, Dean of the St. Vladimir's Seminary has apparently suggested this month that the Orthodox Church in America elect Moscow Patriarchate Archbishop Hilarion (Alfeeyev) of Vienna as the new Metropolitan and First Hierarch of the OCA. This election would likely end the autocephalous status of the OCA, granted to the bishops of the American Metropolia by the Moscow Patriarchate in 1970. At the very least, this move will terminate any questions about the legitimacy of the OCA as an autocephalous Orthodox Church. Here is the link:
