ATTACK AGAINST ROAC IN SUZDAL

ATTACK AGAINST ROAC IN SUZDAL
Demonstrators bolstered by local police

Yesterday, Friday, August 24th, there was a demonstration in front of the Synodal headquarters of the Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church in Suzdal, Russia. The demonstrators, members of the Moscow Patriarchate, were accompanied by officers of the local police, and gave interviews to members of the local press, critical of the ROAC Church. As they stood demonstrating, they called out, “Sectarians, get out of Suzdal!” and “Sectarians, get out of Russia!”

Are all sectarians being treated this way, or are the “sectarians” of the ROAC church being singled out for this treatment? What evil are these people doing by going to church and saying their prayers the way they want to? Why would this be a threat to the governing authorities? How does the present government of the Russian Federation even determine who is a sectarian? Since the fall of Communism, Russia, in its bid to join the rest of the civilized nations of the world, has signed international treaties guaranteeing freedom of conscience for its citizens, and separation of church and state.

It would seem that events like this one do more to reinforce the oft-repeated observation of late that the present leaders of the ex-Soviet Union are returning more and more to their former totalitarian ways. It is hard to imagine that any kind of demonstration like this could take place in the West.

This is terrible

Post by Mark Templet »

 :(
This is indeed most distressing as we see the true face of the MP/Putin/FSB/KGB neo-communist machine is slowly but surely setting its sites on chewing up the last true elements of the Russian Orthodox Church. This is just the beginning and will continue to show how Putin's Russia is sliding backwards from democracy and religious freedoms. We haven't hurt a fly and yet the MP feels threatened by the real thing. Why can they not just leave our people in Russia alone to pray and worship?
I for one plan to lean on my senator to call attention to this situation.

I notice that there are no comments about this disturbing report from our Orthodox colleagues and clergy in the ROCOR-MP, OCA, Antiochian, and New Calendar Greek Churches. What do they think about the conduct of their MP brothers-in-Christ in the city of Suzdal? What does Father John Whiteford think about this, for instance?

They probably look at the ROAC the same way that some look at the Kyprianites or others that they do not agree with... not with the Christian love that they should but with the remarks...

"They are heretics and schismatics, why should we help them?"

The Sound of Silence

Post by Pravoslavnik »

Juvenaly,

Code: Select all

Regardless of whether they consider the ROAC clergy and hierarchs to be "heretics and schismatics," I would like to know what the mainstream Orthodox clergy--the OCA, Antiochians, New Calendar Greeks, and ROCOR-MP who are all "united" in communion with the MP--think about the Moscow Patriarchate and the Russian police harrassing and leading menacing public rallies against the cathedra of the ROAC Orthodox Christians in Suzdal. What do the leaders and blog-meisters of the major American Orthodox jurisdictions--like Father John Whiteford, Father Alexander Lebedev, Metropolitan Phillip Saliba, Metropolitan Herman (OCA), and the Greeks think about what is happening in Russia today? Why the deafening silence?

As I said initially, there is blatant silence because they do not seem to care. They are doing their own thing and couldn't care less about what happens in Russia to the ROAC.
