Fener Patriarch Bartholomeus calls for support for Athens mosque

The Fener Orthodox Patriarch from Istanbul, Bartholomeus, called on Greek tourists visiting Capadoccia this week to help pressure the Greek government on the subject of allowing a mosque in Athens to open. Said Bartholomeus to the tourists, "Of all the European capitals, only Athens does not have a mosque.

If you support the mosque in Athens, we can ask for help for protection of our churches here." Bartholomeus' comments came at a dinner held by Mustafapasa Mayor Mustafa Ozer in honor of a group of 150 Greek tourists who had come to celebrate Orthodox Easter and spring masses in Capadoccia. Bartholomeus thanked the local administration in his comments, saying "I would like to express gratitude to the local leaders for all their help during our time in Capadoccia."

Today, I am ashamed to be Greek Orthodox. :ohvey:

ABSOLUTELEY DISGUSTING!

Is he a simpleton? Does he REALLY believe what he says? Is he completely ignorant of his Church's history, or the suffering of his flock under these muslim cockroaches?

It is time for this OLD FOOL TO GO! He is no longer a defender of the Faith, but a tool of the destructor of the Faith! He shoud be Anathemized!

The trouble is Tom, is that people don't care about the faith of their bishops, they only care (somtimes) when that faith is put into action. Therefore, ecumenism is not a big deal to people as long as Fr. Linda Colemeyer isn't concelebrating at your church.

Your leaders have long said that Islam is acceptable, even a good thing - the worship of the same God. They have said Islam and Orthodoxy in the same geographic area "can inspire mutual respect and the peaceful acceptance of the beliefs of both religions." They have long said "Christianity, through and within dialogue, aims to learn more about Islam, its teachings, its history and traditions"

You see Tom, "The religions of Christianity and Islam are two individual fountains, from which their faithful receive the inner strength to follow their faith and grow spiritually. Christians and Muslims alike are obliged to turn their attention towards the future, so that they can bring about the vision of God’s peace upon Earth." Who cares about Truth, after all, "what is truth?"

Moscow, June 5, Interfax - It is important to strengthen relations between Russia and the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexy II said at a Monday meeting with Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.

"I am glad that relations between the Organization of the Islamic Conference and Russia have recently reached state level," he said.

The OIC "can and must play a large role in the creation of an image of Islam, which is nowadays often distorted by acts of terrorism," Alexy II said.

The Russian Orthodox Church has been holding dialog with Islam for a long time and an Interreligious Council was set up in 1997, he said.
