Moscow, May 25, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church would like the United Nations and other international organizations to pay more attention to the dialogue between religions.
"It is very important to build up a dialogue between religions, in particularly, with the assistance of the UN and other international organizations. It may be useful to discuss a UN possible contribution to religious dialogue," head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, said at a Moscow meeting of experts on Thursday.
About 60 representatives of Orthodox, Christian, Muslim and Jewish religious organizations are preparing a World Religious Summit, which is due in Moscow on July 3-5.
The forum will precede the G8 summit, the metropolitan said. "It is necessary to define a religious view of the problems to be discussed at the G8 summit, including education, fair distribution of natural resources, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, and non- proliferation of weapons of mass destruction," he said.
