Americans, who will you be voting for as President in 2004?

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Ania,

You misunderstood me completely. I was referring to women who claim that pregnancy and motherhood will CAUSE mental health problems -- such as unbearable stress -- and use that excuse to abort the babies. I was not referring to women with existing mental health troubles.

At first, your comment about giving away the children of mothers with mental health problems angered me extremely. I cannot express how angry you made me. No one with even a minimal understanding of mental health issues could make so stupid (there is no other word) a remark. (Well, there are others, but I refrain from using them.) You have reminded me of how abysmally inadequate the general public's understanding of, and sensitivity to, mental illness continues to be.

Your friend's loss is very sad. I hope you were there to support her throughout the grieving period. Nonetheless, the account bears no relationship either to what I wrote, or to what you wrote in your preceding paragraph.

Ortho6, I'm sorry if I offended you. God forbid that a child be taken away from a mother who will care for it & love it. Never that. I'm sorry that you interpreted it like that, and as I read back to what I wrote, I can definately see how you read it. After I finish this post, I'll go back & change it, I can only say that yesterday was a busy day at work and I didn't read over what I wrote, like I usually do. So Sorry, it must have sounded extremely insensitive & cruel. I know many people who suffer from depression, bi-polar, etc. that are extremely loving great parents. I meant if they are using it as an excuse of, "well, I just can't handle it right now, give me another Clanasipan" Yes, I do know somebody who's had 3 abortions in the last year because she "can't handle it right now, she's too depressed." That's who I was thinking of when I wrote that.

Well this is a Holy thing to do (Haveing a site dedicated to Orthodox issues in an Orthodox mindset) so if she wasn't married she commited a "Carnal Sin" and so theres no need to talk about her on this site especially her being a non "Isrealite" like us.

Not only are you an insensitive clod, you don't pay attention to what your insulting. I wrote that she's a devout Catholic. If you have any kind of grey matter, take it from there.

Dear Artemon:
Carnal Sin? We are Orthodox Christians, not Roman, not Protestant, not etc., We only have sin to deal with. I find from your comments, and others, a western take on sin that gives little or no understanding to the gift of frogiveness.

There is a lesson perhaps in the above posting, Artemon. Before assuming anything, and especially before making strong statements about their state or sins, you clarify what the other poster has written down or meant?

Remember Our Saviour when faced with a mob accusing a woman of adultery? His conduct both toward her and her accusers. And remember he wrote in the soil. According to tradition he wrote down the accusers own great sins. After which they went away shamefaced and she admonished to sin no more. Quietly and without heat or drama........
