Americans, who will you be voting for as President in 2004?

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Dear Fr. Dcn. Nikolai:

Truly hello, I did as directed, found you and yours, thank you. I am a ROCOR priest assigned to St. Seraphims parish in Boise, Idaho. We have varied congregation, Americans, Russians, etc, and we are under the Omophor of His Eminence Archbishop Kryill, Bishop of San Francisco and Western America, a truly holy and pious man.

I found your church web-site, very impressive, but know little or nothing of your jurisdiction ROCA. Gleaned some information from your site but still find the Orthodox alphabet soup of jurisdictions in America very confusing if not down right sinful.

Enjoy the Cafe very much, learn a lot, will probably not post much but will continue to be an active reader of it's content.

Dear Artemon:

I read your recommended site, found it a truth presented so poorly and in such a way as to make it ineffective. Most people by design, make themselves unaware of history because the daily trials of living in the world are difficult and were it not for Holy, almost unbearable. People such as us, site-members are more aware of the events of history for several reasons, one, it's necessary to know what has gone before so that we will be more able to remain faithful, two, most of us are blessed, and I use that term advisably, with an intellect and accompanying curiosity that makes it necessary for us to know, three, we are all to be truthful, just plain nosy.

I recommend that you approach this subject from a historical perspective, it will entice your readers and gain for you a great deal of respect for your opinion.

Is it the end times, I do not care as or Lord instructed us to not be concerned about that event. All and all, it looks to me like the confusion found historically at the end of any secular empire. I pray the Liturgy, for my family, friends and all of the created of our Lord and savior, take great joy and comfort in my friends here and elsewhere and take this time with all of you to educate myself and to understand with the ability my Creator has given me.

Try the suggested approach and I will look forward to your post.

Fr. Luke,

As I said, Sen. Kerry is against all abortion. You continue to refuse to address the fact that President Bush is pro-abortion in the case of incest, rape and health of the mother.

If I may ask (another) question... when you use the term "health of the mother," are you referring to something like a disease or illness which might have unfortunate effects on the child, or are you also referring to cases where the mother's life is at risk (e.g., an ectopic pregnancy)? In other words, if a woman came and told you that the doctors had told her that either she or the child would die, what would you say? I don't mean to put you on the spot, and certainly you are under no obligation to answer, I'm just trying to understand your position more clearly.

an aside here. . .

That oft-claimed justification, "health of the mother" has holes through which a Humvee could drive, unfortunately. At present, all a woman has to do is selfishly claim that her "mental health" does not allow her to continue the pregnancy and raise the child -- and she legally may murder her child on so specious an excuse.

Ectopics are a genuinely sorrowful, sad case. The baby cannot live, which forces a Christian mother into a nightmarish situation.

Mental health & physical health in this matter are completely unrelated.

If someone claims their mental health is impared as an EXCUSE to have an abortion, then that's a sin. There are many people with mental problems who are loving capable parents. If the sick person refuses the child, he should be taken by the family, or put up for adoption. If the person is so mentally sick that they just don't care about the life growing inside them, well, it's a frightening thing.

As for physical health, my best friend, a devout Catholic, recently had a miscarriage, not knowing she'd been pregnant it came a shock. She was extremely depressed for a while, crying all day, not going to work, etc, thinking about might have been. During the following doctors visit, she found out the the embryo had been in her tubes. Had she not had a misscarriage, she would have had to abort, as she has other health issues. The miscarriage she now sees as a blessing, as she didn't have to make that choice.

<<edited, as what I wrote yesterday sounded extremely offensive & cruel even to me now that I read it>>
