The Apostolic Faith, as defined at the Councils of Nicea and Constantinople, and ratified at all subsequent Councils teaches that there is only "One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church".

The Ecumenical Patriarch holds that there are two "sister Churches".
(again, see the official website of the Ecumenical Patriarchate: http://www.ec-patr.gr/deltiotypou/engdi ... ata&lang=1)

Therefore, in my opinion, he is teaching an heresy condemned by the Councils

Not only that, but he holds to the Gregorian Calender that had been made anathema by his predecessors in 1583.

To answer your previous question:

The First Canonical Letter of St. Basil the Great (d. 378AD)

For the beginning of the separation came about by schism, and those who revolted from the Church no longer possessed the grace of the Holy Spirit. For the imparting thereof ceased with the interruption of the continuity. True, the first ones to depart had had their ordinations from the Fathers, by the imposition of the hands of whom they possessed the spiritual gift. But in breaking away, they became laymen, and thus they had no authority either to baptize or to ordain, since they no longer had the power to grant others the grace of the Holy Spirit from which they themselves had fallen.

Dear Daniel,
This is incorrect. The Ecumenical Patriarchy does not follow the Gregorian Calendar. If it did, it's Pascha would always coincide with the Latin Easter, since the Latins do in fact follow the Gregorian Calendar proper.
Because it's Pachalion follows the Julian Calendar, the Ecumenical Patriarchate cannot be said to follow the Gregorian calendar, but rather a revised version of the Julian.

In Christ,

George

Dear Daniel,
St. Basil the Great is clearly talking here about schismatics, not those who had only fallen into heresy.

2 questions . . .

"I of course could only offer the GOC of Greece, or here in America, the GOC of America. There are others which I would not say are not Orthodox, but because our synod has not yet made formal statements, I am bound to neutrality."

The Synod of Abp Chrsyostomos II of Athens has made no statements concerning any of the Churches mentioned in the opening post of this topic? So, for example, you are "neutral" on HOCNA and ROCOR? The Synod has made no statement on the Lamia group? Odd . . .

second, to juvenaly-
you mention that Josephite and Tikhonite Catacomb groups have either joined or are in communion with ROAC. You were asked who were the heads of these groups. . . no answer. No documentation whatsoever about the groups which you state joined or are in communion with ROAC. why is it that questions addressed to or about ROAC seemingly are always answered with no sources, no documentation? again, it is quite hard for people to accept what is presented with merely "because i said so" as the -uh- basis for what is said.

Michael,

Our synod has not said anything about some of them. Groups such as the Lamians have a clear and unambiguous status.

mwoerl

clear and unambiguou status?

OOD,

well, what exactly is that "clear and unambiguous status"?

Which Churches are Orthodox was the question - (I just found this thread)?

In Ireland all of them! (Check Orthodox Ireland website). EP, Romanians, ROCOR, MP all concelebrate. It reminds me of a time in UK when Archbishop Nikodem (ROCOR) sent the then Fr Mark to Pan Orthodox Vespers at the Ladbrooke Grove Serbian Orthodox Church, with instructions to 'avoid' any MP clergy. I know I was there.

In some ways it seemed simpler then. Avoid the MP, and otherwise get on with it.
