The clergyman's clothing is a symbol of his renunciation of vanity and his submission to the Church's rules. In this sense, it is very important to the faith! As for the specific kind of clothing, this was handed down to us by our fathers, and so we revere it as the tradition of the Church.

St. Tikhon is certainly a saint.

It is important to realize that there was no idea of "ecumenism" at this time. It cannot possibly be said that St. Tikhon was an ecumenist. He was very strict in his confession and completely understood Orthodoxy and its importance. He died for the faith.

I was also a World Orthodox catechumen before I found the True Orthodox Church. They would not baptize me, either! This is actually quite common. The World Orthodox do not want to offend anybody.
