Great Vespers of the Entrance of the Theotokos

Post by joasia »

Hello Forum,

I was wondering if anyone has an English translation of the service. I'm looking for the whole service, not just the Troparia and Kontikion. I want to follow through the whole service. I'm searching on-line, but it's taking a while. If I could download it or copy/paste to Word, then I can transfer it to my E-book.

Thanks

In Christ,
Joanna

In what jurisdiction are you?

HOCNA has the entire service, and their books are excellent.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Hi Maria,

I'm in RTOC. It used to be displayed. I'll have to fix that.

Do you have it on-line?

In Christ,
Joanna

I purchased several service books, but they are from the Greek tradition, but the Slavic and the Greek traditions are slightly different.

What kind of chant do you use? I am familiar with Byzantine chant. However, I have not studied Byzantine notation, which resembles Arabic script.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

I'm looking for the Slavic version, in English.

Here's a link to the whole service: http://swires.org/Liturgy/VesEntTheo.pdf

Pretty sure it's according to the Slavic usage, judging from what saints are commemorated and the footnoted references to the "Kievan tradition".

Only thing is, it seems to be compiled by an OCA layman or something, so watch out during the commemorations of the different saints, because they may have slipped some in there that don't belong. Also, obviously the commemoration of the Bishop will read differently for you. It's also not gonna have the litany prayers for "the persecuted Russian Church" like we have.

(If for some reason the link doesn't work, go to this link (http://swires.org/Liturgy.htm) and then just select "Vespers, Entrance of the Theotokos".)
