No way! I do not want people knowing my Baptismal/Legal name, or what religion I am!

Very Important Poll Question for All Posters!

Post by 尼古拉前执事 »

Right now we are considering enacting a new rule for the Café. This would be that your user name is your Baptismal name (If you are not yet Orthodox, you could use the name you plan to be Baptized under or your legalname) and a section where you list your religious affiliation.

As for the Baptismal name, since there may be many people with the same name, so derivitives, maybe an option. (i.e. Katherine could be Katia or Katerina) Of course if you used your last name, this would less likely be an issue.

The moderatong team has discussed this, and while we are generally in favor of it, we wanted to make this aprocess where you all have input.

Please make sure you vote and have all your friends do the same!

This Poll will run for 9 days only.Wake me up when September ends.

I don't like the idea of nicknames "Tom" etc..

You could always have something like ThomasT, ThomasJ, and so on.

Agreed. I think if there are those who are not comfortable with posting their last names then the first letter mught be a good substitute for that or I am sure there are other options as well.

I think this is a ridiculous rule and hope it won't get enacted. The Orthodox world is too small and this will open some up to privacy issues; others will be unwilling to post if they are in sensitive positions, etc. Some who might be considering traditionalism and might want to ask questions discreetly will be turned off by this rule. Plus, it's just not necessary.

Quite the contrary, I think such a constrictive rule is a perfect introduction to the realities of the online traditionalist world view. If they are intersted in traditionalism (the online kind anyway), then they better get used to changing their whole life around in the pursuit of correctness! :)
