I was thinking how we should really cherish our freedoms we have now and exercise them before something like this comes to america in future and how this is not such a far idea .
We already have mandatory social security numbers that are tied to credit scores. So actually, the USA is more socialistic in some ways than China.
In addition, TSA is preventing certain people (liberals and conservatives) from leaving the country as their passports have been flagged. When people have already purchased expensive airline tickets, and have pre-purchased hotel rooms in foreign countries, they find that they are stranded at the airport and cannot get refunds or leave the country because they have not been informed by the TSA or other governmental agency that they are on a NO FLY LIST.
We were thinking of getting passports back in 2015, but with the expense and the uncertainty, we decided not to do so.
At this time, passports cost $110.00 and the passport cards are $30.00. They cannot be obtained instantly, nor online. The fact that the government could arbitrarily deny you a passport and not give you a refund even after you have paid dearly for it, was a huge turnoff.
There is now a movement, which is already law in New York and other Eastern Seaboard states, that you must have a US passport or passport card in order to board a plane and travel to another state in the USA. Since everyone is screened for these passport cards, not everyone can obtain one. And without a passport card, you might not be able to buy and sell goods, nor travel across state lines. It is just a matter of time before these passport cards are mandated everywhere in the USA, and then the computer chips, which are being advertised as more convenient than plastic cards will replace these passport cards.
Incidentally, more US citizens every year are moving abroad and then denying their U.S. citizenship due to the high cost of filing taxes. On the downside, taxes in foreign countries are often more oppressive than here in the States. Furthermore, if you take any kind of dietary supplements, they are prohibitively expensive in foreign countries as the EU requires that people use Brokers who charge exorbitant fees for obtaining dietary supplements made in the USA.

Please note, the application cost is non-refundable and is retained by the Department of State whether or not the passport is issued. You cannot pay online for passport services at this time.
