Parents: How can you best protect your sons and daughters?

Post by xenondrum »

As a father and a man, I know the dangers out in the real world especially now that perverts of various types are more militant and active than ever before in the history of mankind. Indeed, perhaps our times are even more evil than the times of Sodom and Gomorrah. Isn't this also a sign of the End Times, that mankind would be more perverted and wicked, that the faith of many would be destroyed, and that charity would almost cease to exist?

When my own son was a young child, several priests tried to molest him. When he made his first confession as a Roman Catholic at the tender age of seven, he told us to watch the red light at the top of the confessional door. If our son made the red light flicker by repeatedly standing up and then kneeling down on the kneeler, then we were to come and rescue him. Thankfully, nothing happened that day. However, two years later, when our son was only nine years old, our pastor told us that our son was scared of priests, especially of perverted ones, and that we should bring our son only to him for confession.

How can men and women protect their sons and daughters from perverts especially when some Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and even True Orthodox priests, deacons, or laity (both men and women) have succumbed to their demonic passions?

What signs of disorderly passions might be recognized in perverted individuals so that corrective measures might be taken to preserve the chastity in our children and friends.

Some basic signs that can be observed are an extreme narcissism and self-centeredness coupled with a lack of observing custody of the senses. Instead of true piety and a spirit of prayerfulness, the disordered person enjoys telling sensual stories and jokes, and making dissipative remarks timed to make people laugh.

  1. Eyes. Such a pervert will have difficulty controlling his eyes. Instead of modestly keeping his eyes cast down, he will immensely enjoy the scene, eating up the faces, the decor, the actions, and the fashions displayed. Since all the world is a stage for him, there is an inordinate attraction to the cinema, theater, and Hollywood scene, including Oscar events.

  2. Tongue. Instead of guarding his tongue, the pervert will prattle on and on, enjoy hearing himself speak and loving to be the center of activity. The astute man and woman will also detect in the pervert somewhat of an affected lisp, raspy voice, and/or falsetto.

  3. Taste. Instead of guarding his taste buds, the pervert will exult in expensive banquets that offer cuisines from around the world while making every possible excuse to avoid observing the Church Laws of fasting and abstinence. He enjoys only the best in liquors, wines and beers. If he does fast, it is only in anticipation of more fully arousing the taste buds and enjoying the feast.

  4. Ears. Instead of guarding his ears, he will move to the center of activity to better hear the gossip. He enjoys attending concerts and music events. He is drawn to chant, especially Gregorian and Byzantine chant.

  5. Smell. Instead of guarding his sense of smell, the pervert will add more aromatic spices to his foods to savor the aroma. He will liberally splash himself with colognes and aftershaves. Being meticulously obsessed with cleanliness, the pervert will enjoy long showers or hot tub baths. He or she will frequently have cut flowers around the house or burn scented candles. The clothes will always smell of strong fabric softeners for that fresh outdoors odor.

  6. Touch. He fancies only the best fabrics with the finest lay and hand. He prefers to wear only the best lines of clothing or to have his own French tailor. Although he avoids manual labor to avoid soiling his perfectly manicured hands, he cannot keep his hands off young boys and men. Around women, he acts like a perfect gentleman caressing the hands of the ladies.

  7. Balance. The pervert will literally dance and prance instead of walking normally. Frequently indulging in alcohol and in drugs, he may appear somewhat tipsy.

After recognizing some of these signs, then what can be done to protect children?

First, we must devoutly pray for the conversion of this person, who may be falling into perversion, and who could still be saved through (1) the practice of a devout attentive rule of prayer, and (2) the practice of controlling his senses.

Second, we must alert the ecclesiastical authorities of our suspicions by going up the chain of command.

Third, we must keep all children away from this person, and not let him have any position of authority that would involve children. A thorough background check might be helpful.

This is an excellent topic. I’ve actually spoken at several conferences to secular audiences on issues of child protection. I will try to respond later today, although with presanctified liturgy tonight, it may be tomorrow before I can.

Blessed Lent.

If someone’s truly repented for their perverted way of thinking, it might be hard for them to be reaccepted into the community. All examples I’ve seen shows that when something like this happens, the people never forgive the pervert.

This is true because perverts can easily revert if triggers are present, and these triggers are everywhere present today. Triggers can be the mere presence of young boys, young girls, or adolescents, drugs, alcohol, a Broadway show, a TV series, a movie, a fleshy Los Vegas road sign, indiscreet Facebook posts, and/or one of those pop-up porn ads. Just starting a day without prayer or failing to watch one's senses can lead one into serious sin. Just going to a party or wedding where wine is free flowing, guests are immodestly dressed, and lips and tongues are loose could be serious temptations.

Anyone who has fallen into sins of the passions needs to be living in a community of saintly people who will not lead them into temptation, but is that even possible today?

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
