Re: Canon of matins for weekdays of Lent

Post by Jean-Serge »

Dear all,

Once again, I’ll thank Mother Evfrosinia for its indications. They have been a great help during all this period along with the instrcutions contained in the book called :

However, some points are a bit unclear. Basically when the ode as only a canon of the menologion, the reading is done in this way

• Irmos of the ode
• Verse from biblical ode
• Troparion 1 of the ode
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Troparion 2
• Glory to…
• Troparion 3
• And now and ever
• Theotokion of the ode

Now the question is, what to do if the ode of the menologion has 5 troparia, theotokion included? Are the first two ones merged?

If we take the basic structure when there are odes from the Triod and of the menologion to read. The basic structure is the following

Begin reading the biblical ode and at the appointed time
• Irmos of the ode
• Verse from biblical ode
• Troparion 1 of the ode
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Troparion 2
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Troparion 3
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Theotokion of the ode
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Troparion 1 of first ode of Triod
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Troparion 2 of first ode of Triod
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Troparion 3 of first ode of Triod
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Theotokion of the first ode of Triod
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Troparion 1 of 2nd ode of Triod
• Verse of the biblical ode
• Troparion 2 of 2nd ode of Triod
• Glory to…
• Troparion 3 of 2nd ode of Triod
• And now and ever
• Theotokion of the 2nd ode of Triod
• Glory to you, our God
• Additional troparion from triodon
• Hirmos of the second ode said as a katavasia

So this means 10 verses of the biblical odes. But what if the ode from the menologion has 5 troparia, theotokion included. What to do so as not to lack a biblical verse.

What is done in Lesna?

I read another version saying that in fact 11 biblical verses are to be said. If the ode of the menologion has 4 troparia (theotokion included), then, the first is repeated.

Thank you in advance. I hope we’re not boring people with all this. Anyway, it was the first time in my life I could use the biblical verses. It is a bit difficult at the beginning but after that, it becomes easier.

Sorry to take so long to respond, it just wasn't possible to find the time towards the end of Great Lent.

At Lesna, when there are extra troparia, we merge them, so as not to confuse the numbering, ie, so that you still have the same amount of troparia. There are other practices, but this works best for s.

Thank you very much for your indications! :) I'll use it for next year, God willing.
