Differnece between Greek & Russian Baptism

Post by jacqueline »

A friend of mine has invited me to her child's baptism at a Greek Orthodox(goarch) church next week. This will be my 1st time at a Greek baptism. Since I am of Russian heritage, I am only familiar with the Russian Orthodox baptism and traditions. What differences, if any, should I expect at a Greek baptism?

Thank You :)

Dear Jacqueline, usually it is very similar unless they do the Jerusalem version of Baptizing in the robe. The biggest difference in the one who is Baptized is completely covered in oil rather than the smaller amount that the Russians use.
