From that website:

"CCT will Worship and Celebrate its Founding
at the National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.,
September 18, 2005
The National Cathedral in Washington DC has been designated as the site for the official launching of Christian Churches Together in the USA on September 18, 2005. Founding participants from the five faith families (Catholic, Evangelical and Pentecostal, Racial Ethnic, Orthodox and Protestant) and their guests will assemble for worship in celebration of the coming together of the Christian families and their growing closer in Christ in order to broaden and expand fellowship and strengthen Christian witness in the world. A local organizing committee has been established under the leadership of W. Todd Bassett, Salvation Army Commissioner and CCT Interim Steering Committee member. Other members of the organizing committee include Rev. Ron Sider, Rev. Don Williams, Bishop Vicken Aykazian , Father Ron Roberson and others. Details of the celebration will be announced as they become available."

I talked to my priest about this..and he speculated that perhaps the Orthodox were granted a waiver regarding the common prayer part of their praxis...

Even tough your priest speculated wrongly, I wonder if that really would have made a difference.

Interesting that they had the Orthodox representatives leading the prayer. In the picture you have represented from L to R, the OCA, the Antiochians, the Armenians, the Copts, and the Greeks, praying in an Episcopalian chapel with all those other folks.

The canons say these Orthodox should be deposed and barred (Canon 65 of the Apostolic Canons). As I understand the canon, anyway. How can a layperson be barred or deposed? Isn't that just for clerics?

  1. Let a bishop, or presbyter, or deacon who only prays with heretics, be excommunicated; but if he also permit them to perform any part of the office of a clergyman, let him be deposed.

Sadly, you are right.
