ADVENTIST PASTOR OPPOSES HIS CHURCH'S PARTICIPATION IN INTERCONFESSIONAL EVENTS

Membership of the leaders of the Russian Adventists in the Coordinating Council of Heads of Protestant Churches (KSGPTs) and their participation in a prayer breakfast at the end of February and in the All-Russian Prayer of Repentance on 9 March "are not supported by the congregations of Seventh-Day Adventists throughout the territory of CIT. Local churches of the Eurasian division did not approve their plans by their own votes and did not authorize them to do these things." The presbyter of the Central Society of Seventh-Day Adventists of the city of Zaporozhie, Anton Zaruba, made this declaration in an open letter that was distributed on 10 March, "Blagovest-info" reports.
Enumerating in full detail the interconfessional events in which leaders of Russian Adventists participated in 2002-2003, Anton Zaruba states that the very fact of such participation violates the teaching of SDA churches. "According to its doctrinal and biblical teaching," he stresses, "the SDA church sees itself as the only true church of God on this earth. Proceeding from this, we cannot enter into any kind of ties with the apostate churches, although we recognize that there also are true followers of Christ within them."
The Zaporozhie presbyter stresses "that the actions of the leaders of the Seventh-Day Adventists who participate in KSGPTs and in events organized by it do so on the personal initiative and do not reflect the true position of SDA churches." (tr. byPDS, posted 12 March 2003)
