Fr. Mark,

In 1995 6 bishops "walled themselves off" from the Holy Synod of the GOC of Greece under H.H. Archbishop Chrysostomos II. This shows up on your linked chart in 1995 as "Kallinikos" from the "Chrysostomos Kiousis" "branch" (arggg!). Kallinikos was the president of the schism and he was bishop of Lamia - hence the name Lamians. They were all deposed.

So this "walling off" was because Bp. Epthymios was charged with sexual immorality by none-other than the man (who was made a priest by the State Church) in the center of the scandal in the State Church. THis was the second time Bp. Epthymios was accused of homosexuality, and when the Holy Synod called him to spiritual court, he refused, hence the schism. Of course I feel there may be more to it on a personal level, but that is no concern of mine.

In the a few years, 2 of those bishops repented and returned to the synod, 2 joined the EP (Paisios and Vikentios), and 2 continued to "wall themselves off" and they created more "bishops" until today, when they have actually elected Makarios as their Archbishop which is the final declaration that they are a brand new synod. Now in Greece they bill themselves as the "alternative synod" and never cease with the constant attacks on the Holy Synod in the same style as Gregory of Colorado - almost as if they would have no reason to exist at all if not for us.

On the chart you linked, Paisios and Vikentios are shown as leaving in 1998 from the H. Synod under Chrysostomos II. This is wrong, they left from the Kallinikos schism.

Hope that helps, it is very confusing.
