Any Patristic Evidence Against Papal Supremacy?

Post by khomes »

so I have this catholic who is trying to convince me of his heresies. I of course, left Rome and will never look back. However, I am having a difficult time responding to him. Could you guys perhaps provide some patristic evidence to give to him. Any sort of scriptural, patristic, or otherwise source proving Orthodoxy. And also, perhaps some proof of the same kind proving how Rome has drifted away, like I said he is posting this saint or that council saying x, y, z proving that Rome has sole authority. A little help?

I was baptised into the Genuine Orthodox Church with the name Matthew on March 1 2016

"Preserve my children: patience, compassion, wisdom, gentleness, humility, silence, fasting, prayer. Prayer gives humility, modesty, and obedience. He who keeps these reasons that lead to the imitation of Christ, provides for the salvation of his immortal soul; he who despises them, despises his own salvation."

When I was a catechumen in the Orthodox Church, there was this guy from Catholic Answers who sent me Jesus, Peter, and the Keys. It was apparently written by zealous Catholic converts from Protestantism who would take a plethora of biblical or patristic passages out of context to prove their thesis that St. Peter and Rome alone were granted the "Keys" by Christ. These quotes sounded very convincing at first. However, the authors of this book ignored other passages from the Apostles and Saints that proved otherwise.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

You really only need one disproof; from there you can observe the absurdities of Catholicism, with particular reference to the consequences of praying/playing with images in the mind. The Bishop of Rome has been isolated too long, and it shows.

Let us note, also, that the honor which the Orthodox Church has bestowed on both St. Peter and St. Paul, that is, the title of Protokoryphaioi, i.e., "leaders" or "chiefs" of the Apostles, gives us some insight into what the distinctions between the Disciples of Christ actually mean. They describe functions, responsibilities, cares, and rôles; they do not, however, refer to special privileges, prerogatives, or authority. For, in the final analysis, despite these distinctions, all of the Apostles were equal,....
