but we all should

If there were enough who were able to be spiritual fathers, then yes, I agree :)

What kind of threads are you thinking of not participating in during the great Lent Justin?

The ones that I have a personal reaction to ;) lol. This one, for instance, is a bit too personal for me, I feel like I'm defending myself, not defending an Orthodox position. The one on the MP and ROCOR reuniting as well... too close to a political discussion, a definate no-no during Lent.

Justin

PS. Just a clarification.. I hope no one will think I was trying to put Saint John down... I love Saint John (e.g., if you read who I've been quoting over in the Church Fathers thread, you'll see I've quoted him multiple times, while I've quoted every one else once). I find him to be very insightful and helpful. Still, it's important to know context. You wouldn't want to base your eschatology completely on that of Justin Martyrs beliefs, and you wouldn't want to base your hermeneutical approach completely on that of Ireneaus', and you wouldn't want to base your views of hell on Gregory of Nyssa's writings, and you wouldn't want to base your idea of the place of Rome based on Saint Gregory the Great's beliefs... well, you get the point. Also, the lives of saints are "applied dogmatics" according to Justin Popovich and Seraphim Rose... that's quite interesting considering the number of saints in the Church who took the marital celibacy path. But see...?? again I'm defending! enough of this, I shan't return to the thread again, lest I get drawn into making further posts! You know where to reach me if you want to correct me :)

Well you have a few more days to participate I guess. :D It may be hard to find them, but I think there are the priests available to be one's spiritual fathers. Don't be afraid to look at the Churches in communion with us such as the Serbian Church or the Old Calendar Church of Greece. I know of one person in my church that has the OCCG Metropolitan as her spiritual Father! Monastaries also tend to be a good place to look, if you can. God Bless your search for one Justin!
